BNLA Welcomes Rt. Hon Chief Justice Min Bahadur Rayamajhi.

Britain Nepal Lawyers Association (BNLA) had an opportunity to welcome Rt. Hon Chief Justice Min Bahadur Rayamajhi, Hon. Justice Dr. Ananda Mohan Bhattarai and Mr. Binod Sharma, Joint Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nepal, at Nepal Embassy London. Rt. Hon. Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Dr. Bhattarai and Mr. Sharma were here in London to attend "International Conference of Jurists" Jointly organised by International Society of Jurists and Lincolns Inn.

Speaking at the reception, Rt. Hon. Chief Justice expressed his commitment towards rule of law and judicial activism for the protection of civil rights in Nepal. Hon. Justice Dr. Bhattarai answered some question raised by the participants and also gave his thoughts about possible cooperation between BNLA and legal community in Nepal. The distinguished guests were presented with the constitution of the Britain Nepal Lawyers Association (BNLA). Prof. Surya Subedi, OBE, chairman of the Association, thanked distinguished guests as well as other participants.

Election of First Executive committee.

The first general meeting of the Britain Nepal Lawyers Association (BNLA) held at Darjeling Inn, Southall has unanimously elected new executive committee. The new executive committee is chaired by Mr. Raju Thapa, a qualified solicitor practising at Asghar and Co. Solicitors. Mr. Devendra Singha Shrestha, Yog Upadhyay, Amrit Kharel and Umesh Bikram Shah are elected as vice chairman, general secretary, joint secretary and treasurer, respectively. Mr. Dipesh Shrestha, Mr. Umesh Moktan, Mrs. Kabita Karki and Mr. Kirti Bilash Pant are also elected as members of the executive committee.

The general meeting also reviewed past activities and discussed the future plans. The general meeting also passed a resolution to request Prof. Surya Subedi, OBE to be "Patron" of the Association. Speaking on the occasion, Patron Prof. Subedi urged all the members to continue contributing positively in this new endeavour. The newly elected chairman Mr. Raju Thapa thanked outgoing executive comitee members for this contribution to the Association. Mr. Thapa also thanked to all the members and expressed his confidence that the new executive committee will continue to get full support of each and every member.
