Founding Members

Professor Surya P Subedi O.B.E.; DPhil (Oxford); Barrister (England)

Prof. Subedi is a professor of International law, at School of Law, University of Leeds, UK. He holds a D.Phil in International Law from the University of Oxford, an LLM with Distinction from the University of Hull, and an MA and an LLB from Tribhuvan University. He teaches public international law, international human rights law, international investment law, WTO law, and international arbitration.

Prof. Subedi is also a practicing Barrister of Middle Temple and works from Tanfield Chambers in London. Prior to joining the Bar of England, he was a Consultant on international legal matters to Mishcon de Reya Solicitors in London. He is also included in the roaster of Panel in the WT Dispute Settlement body. He also works in International Environmental Law and is a Member of IUCN Commission of Environmental law.

He has been awarded prestigious prizes for his academic work by the University of Oxford and the British Society of Legal Scholars. He was also made an honorary Officer of the Order of the British Empire by HM the Queen of the UK in 2004 for services to international law and Britain-Nepal relations.

Recently, Prof. Subedi has been appointed as the UN Special Rapporteur for human rights in Cambodia by the UN Human Rights Council.

Raju Thapa has extensive knowledge in Immigration and civil litigation. He is head of Immigration department. He is first ever recognised practising solicitor in England and Wales from Nepalese community which is confirmed by Law Gazette. He has written many articles in local newspaper, providing legal advice in nepalisamajuk.com (online service), appeared as Immigration expert in Deurali TV and Nepal TV etc.

Yog Upadhyay

Yog has recently completed Ph.D from School of Law University of Sheffield. He is associated with “Sheffield Institute for Biotechnological Law and Ethics (SIBLE)”, a multi-disciplinary research centre within School of Law, University of Sheffield, UK. He has been involved in teaching various law modules including legal theories, international commercial law and intellectual property and is a member of IUCN Commission on Environmental law (CEL). Yog has also worked in various EU funded research projects. His work is primarily focused on ethical and moral issues around biotechnology. Yog also works in “international commercial arbitration” and has served “ICC International Court of Arbitration, Paris France” as a Court member. He was qualified as an advocate to practice in the Supreme Court of Nepal in 1996 and was practising commercial law until 2001. He was also involved in teaching various law subjects in Nepal. Yog was one of the founder members of the International Chamber of Commerce, Nepal National Committee (ICC, NEPAL)
